David Hays believes strongly in getting it right the first time, which is a trait he has found most clients desire in their accountant. Wanting to do it right helped him earn his master’s degree in accounting at Oklahoma State University in 1977. David went to work for a major national firm directly out of college and came to Stanfield + O’Dell in 2009. He has enjoyed working for Stanfield + O’Dell, where the shareholders make local decisions that are in the clients’ and the firm’s best interests and preserve long-lasting relationships. David feels this flexibility allows the firm to provide tailored service to each client and broadens the spectrum of clients S + O is able to serve.
David’s commitment to accuracy and his wealth of experience empower him to head up Stanfield + O’Dell’s audit department. Through leading by example, David helps instill these same values in his whole department and champions strong, long-lasting relationships with every unique client. David has noticed that each client engagement has a consistent end-point but they all have a different starting point. While each business has a different set of facts and circumstances, David understands that Stanfield + O’Dell’s services help let business owners focus on running their businesses. “The product that goes out the door at this firm,” David comments, “reflects on them, and on us. I want both us and our clients to look great.”
David is a former board chairman of Special Olympics Oklahoma and past-president of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs. He is also a long-time officer for YMCA of Greater Tulsa and a graduate of Leadership Tulsa Class 14. David has been married since 1980, and has two adult children. He and his wife enjoy traveling and taking in cultural events in Tulsa.
