IRS Search Available for Tax Exempt Organizations

Beginning January 1, 2022, the IRS will have publicly available data on electronically filed Forms 990 available on its Tax Exempt Organization Search webpage.

On this website, an organization’s eligibility to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions is available, as well as the information about the organization and its tax exempt status and filings.

Included for each organization are:

  • Form 990 filings
  • Form 990-N (e-Postcard) filings
  • IRS Publication 78 data
  • Automatic revocation of exemption listings
  • IRS exempt status determination letter

On the search engine website, you can search by any one of the above items, or by all of the above items. In addition, you may search by employer identification number or organization name, city, state, or country.

Use of the website is free and can provide valuable information to a taxpayer to assist in making certain a contribution to a tax exempt organization will afford the taxpayer an allowable contribution deduction.
